7 Layer Magic Bars

Updated: Jan 30, 2022

Delicious layered dessert bars that are versatile, easy and a great go-to for parties, little "gifts from the kitchen" or for you to enjoy - just because.. Enjoy!

Ingredients:

  • 1 stick butter

  • 2 and 1/2 cups graham cracker (finely crumbled) (I can get away with one packet in a box)

  • 1 can 14 oz sweetened condensed milk

  • Shredded coconut

  • Butterscotch chips

  • Chocolate chips

  • Unsalted pecan halves

  • Maldon finishing - large flake salt

Notes: This recipe is nice because it is versatile - I have added peanut butter chips, walnuts, etc. And there is no exact amount you need to layer on - use what you have. I like to pretty much cover the surface so that there is at least some of everything in each bite. The above listed is my personal favorite way - but get out there and experiment!

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F

  1. Grease a 9x13 pan and preheat oven to 350F.

  2. I use a small food processor to crumble the graham crackers.

  3. Melt the butter and mix with the graham cracker - layer the crumble mixture on the bottom of the greased pan. I use the bottom of a measuring cup to press it firmly and evenly into the bottom of the pan.

  4. Next - pour on the condensed milk -- this stuff is thick and gooey -- if you have not used before, be slow and concise -- slowly pour it over the graham mixture. If you use a spatula to try and spread it out, it may drag the crumb mixture around. You need to be delicate and slowly try to distribute lightly from the top. If you give it time it will settle on its own.

  5. Layer the shredded coconut. It's all about how much you want to layer!

  6. Next the butterscotch and chocolate chips.

  7. Then add the pecan pieces and some Maldon salt.

  8. Bake at 350 degrees for about 25 minutes. You are not trying to get color here - it should be bubbly when you pull it out of the oven and still appear "white" to the look - not browned.

  9. Let this cool on the stove or rack before you move it to the fridge.

  10. Let it set for a few hours in the fridge -- it will be difficult to cut through without it gooey and falling apart unless it is completely cooled.

  11. Cut into squares and enjoy!! This will be a go-to for you, I promise!

XOXO, Chef Em
